Choosing a Chime for Your Business
You will need to think and research your business‘s entry needs before you can make a decision on the correct door chime for your company. There are a couple things you can initially think about to make your decision easier; does your business have a receptionist, what is the layout of the office, and do you need to keep certain parts of the office locked off. Whatever your final decision is you will need to look into the manufacturer’s recommendation and also check on the placement guidelines and the warranty.
The most common and most recognizable is the chime that goes off when the door is open. Most of the time you will see this type of chime on the front door, but some buildings also have these chimes on other doors to alert security when they are used. This is common for businesses that deal with dangerous materials or chemical or when a company has items that are more likely to be stolen. One example of this is a pharmacy that will usually keep narcotics is a separate room with a door chime to let people know when it is being accessed. You can determine whether the chime is loud for everyone to hear or if it only alerts security computers or devices. This is a different option to the older chimes that let everyone hear the chime when someone entered the door.
You can control who enters and leaves the building by installing a door chime that also has an intercom. At this stage, your chime is used more for granting access to people. These chimes will notify a desk or apartment when someone is at the door and then they have the choice to grant permission for that person to enter. The chime will sound and this means that the person can now enter the building. These are most common in apartment complexes to limit access or in large business offices when they do not have a security desk or staff. Intercom systems will let employees or residents of these buildings to gain access via a key, access code, or a card reader.
You might want a chime that makes a sound every time the door is opened but you might not want one that does this all day. The chime could get annoying and could even turn disruptive in some office settings. For these situations you might want a chime you can turn on and off. The receptionist can turn the chime off when they are at their desk but can turn it on if they have to leave for some reason. You can also have it set on a timer so it only works at certain times of the day. This is a great option for evening traffic when the receptionist has left for the day.
